HISTORY
Chillum Manor was built by a branch of the Digges
family. In 1641 the Digges family received one of the
patents from Lord Baltimore for land in what is now
Prince Georges County. During the Civil War one of the
68 forts surrounding Washington was Fort Slocum. It was
built by the Rhode Island Infantry and was named for S.
Slocum who was killed in the First Battle of Bull Run. The Fort
provided support for Fort Stevens to its west. The area
remained farmland and undeveloped until the turn of the
century. Manor Park was the largest subdivision built in
Chillum.
